My initial blog on this subject (https://enerworks.com/2015/03/could-reducing-co2-help-grow-the-economy/) highlighted a report from the International Energy Association documenting global economic growth without associated increase in man-made CO2 emissions. This was very interesting (and promising) news because up until this point it was widely thought the world economy couldn’t grow without also increasing man-made CO2 emissions.
With this follow up report, the International Energy Agency reports that “The new figures confirm last year’s surprising but welcome news: we now have seen two straight years of greenhouse gas emissions decoupling from economic growth,” said IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol.
A graph showing historical trends of man-made Greenhouse Gas emissions contained in the full press release from the International Energy Agency can be found here: https://www.iea.org/newsroom/news/2016/march/decoupling-of-global-emissions-and-economic-growth-confirmed.html
